The shortest makeready times. A ROLAND 700 DirectDrive press can reduce makeready time by up to 60 percent1 compared with a conventional sheetfed offset press. This is made possible by the interplay of a number of different technologies. Directly driven plate cylinders permit all printing plates to be changed simultaneously. Every printing unit is equipped with the fullyautomated plate changing system (APL®) that further simplifies the printer's work. The great advantage is that all plates can be changed in only one minute regardless of the press configuration. In effect no time at all is needed for plate changing (ZeroTimePlateChange). It takes place during the three to four minutes needed for simultaneous washing of the impression and blanket cylinders.
Electronic print length correction. This facility enables the operator to correct the print length during production which avoids time-consuming addition or removal of underpacking sheets in the printing unit concerned. Fast, easy and error-free from the control console.
Perfect ink distribution. The optimized number of rollers in the inking unit ensures that the balance between storage capacity and fast reaction is always maintained. This fast reaction makes remote inking control and remote adjustment of the oscillation start angle particularly effective.
Flat sheet travel. Trust: the modern principle of double-diameter impression cylinders and transferters provides gentle sheet travel for substrates up to 1 millimeter thick. But verify: the ROLAND InlineObserver* 1 enables the printer to monitor sheet travel and thus makes sure the settings are always optimal.
Precise register. In addition to the plate cylinder direct drive system, the press is driven by a longitudinal shaft and gear train 2 . Above all with long press configurations, this dual drive guarantees high printing quality and perfect register over the entire lifetime of the press. Smooth and gentle delivery. Even at high press speeds, the AirGlide delivery 3 produces perfectly even stacks, thanks to the particularly flat sheet ascent and long sheet stabilization path.

Fully-automated plate change (APL™). With the APL™ system, plate position control ensures that the plates are correctly mounted. This results in precise register from the first sheet and saves a lot of time.
Non-stop operation. With the non-stop feeder and delivery, piles are changed at production speed. This saves a great deal of time when running thick substrates in particular, and the non-stop equipment can be linked to AUPASYS, the world's leading automated pallet transport system. Besides that, the system can reduce start-up waste.

Highly automated. The most important automation features include format settings, washing systems, air settings, PPL™ (Power Plate Loading) and ColorPilot – the fastest color control system on the market. Besides these automation features, the QuickChange modules reduce makeready time even further.
High speed with no quality compromises. The high printing speed of the ROLAND 500 creates additional capacity for more jobs. It prints paper and cardboard up to 1 millimeter thick at a maximum speed of 18,000 sheets per hour.
Flat and gentle sheet travel. Flat because the center points of the double-diameter impression cylinders and transferters are arranged virtually in a line to provide the world's flattest sheet travel from the feedboard right through to the delivery pile. Gentle because, in addition to automatic substrate thickness adjustment, there are three different height settings for the transferter gripper bars. As a result, sheets from 0.04 to 1 millimeter are always transported through the press gently and contact-free over the air tracks.
Highly stable register. The massive integrally-cast base frame guarantees precise register. This combined with the stable mountings ensures smooth running for the lifetime of the press, and the double-diameter impression cylinders and transferters reduce the number of sheet transfers and thus the risk of register problems.
Highly stable inking. The fast-reacting 16-roller inking unit with large storage capacity provides an outstanding printing quality – with consistent inking over the entire run. And the Deltamatic damping unit eliminates the need for mechanical hickey pickers which avoids any loss of quality and reduces the number of waste sheets.
